Colour control is specified in Part 209 of IEC 62386 |
Part 209 contains several colour types |
DALI-2 certification is available for LED drivers that implement Part 209, colour type Tc (also known as Tunable White) |
To find DALI-2 tunable white products in the database: >> In the Product Search box, select Control gear >> Colour control (part 209, DT8) >> Select Colour type Tc |

Tunable White colour control is now included in the DALI-2 certification program for LED drivers and other control gear.
Part 209 of the IEC 62386 standard describes several approaches—known as colour types—that can be used as alternative methods to control the colour output of light sources. Tunable White DALI-2 drivers implement colour type Tc of Part 209.

Footnotes:
(1) Part 209 of IEC 62386 also includes the Primary-N colour type. DiiA decided that there was no need for Primary-N, since all functionality can be met by the RGBWAF colour type, and lamp colour calibration (calibration of the primaries) is done in a manufacturer-specific way.
(2) Part 209 of IEC 62386 is also known as "Device Type 8" or "DT8".
Colour type Tc (Tunable White)
Allows control of the correlated colour temperature (CCT) along the black-body line, from warm white to cool white.
Colour type RGBWAF
Allows simple control of up to 6 channels of colour (Red, Green, Blue, White, Amber and Free-colour).
Colour type xy coordinate
Also known as xy chromaticity, this allows precise and repeatable selection of the colour co-ordinates from the CIE colour space chromaticity diagram (1931).
DiiA allows trademark use on products that have certain combinations of colour types, as follows:
Colour types in products | Name | Status |
Tc only | DALI-2 Tunable White | DALI-2 certification is now possible - see press release |
RGBWAF only | RGB Colour Control | New product registrations are permitted, allowing DALI version-1 trademark use |
Tc + RGBWAF + xy (i.e. all three colour types together in the same product) |
Multi-type Colour Control | New product registrations are permitted, allowing DALI version-1 trademark use |
Colour control gear with other combinations of colour types, including xy only, are not permitted to carry the DALI or DALI-2 Trademarks.
