How to win a DALI Lighting Award

Have you worked on a unique lighting project that has used DALI to stunning effect? If so, now is the time for your project to get the recognition it deserves.

November 10, 2020

Held in association with the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) and arc magazine, entries are now open for the inaugural DALI Lighting Awards, which celebrate innovative architectural and commercial lighting projects that incorporate DALI technology.

These exciting new Awards will showcase the best use of DALI control solutions in lighting projects across the world while also recognizing the importance of producing great quality illumination.  They will give winners a unique opportunity to make their mark and raise their profile.

From indoor lighting projects to outdoor installations, from large projects with over 500 luminaires to smaller lighting schemes at 64 luminaires and under, the awards will recognise excellence in lighting control, including those projects utilising Zhaga-D4i.
So how do you get to win a DALI Lighting Award? Here’s what our judging panel will be looking for:

Control

In the DALI Lighting Awards, the judges will be assessing lighting schemes in four dimensions. In other words, it’s not just about how it looks and feels, but how it adapts and changes at different times. What do the controls achieve? Have you made an installation more adaptable? More efficient? Have you enhanced the atmosphere, or the comfort and wellbeing of the people who use the space? Have you introduced dynamic elements to bring the space to life? Our judges will be considering all these things as they hunt for a winner.

Creativity

Every space is different, and every lighting challenge has countless possible solutions. The judges will be looking for beauty, balance, drama and daring. They want to see how you’ve used light to help craft a space. Of course, they’ll be looking for integration into architecture and effective use of accents, but they’ll also be hoping to find some unexpected touches that lift a project from good to great, or from great to exceptional.

Problem solving

The DALI Lighting Awards are not just a beauty contest. They’re also about ingenuity and problem solving. They’re about making something happen. That might mean introducing controls to a challenging environment such as a historic building or a space with hard-to-reach areas. It might mean using controls to slash energy consumption, or to change the way a site or space is used. It’s always exciting to see entries from hot new restaurants and seven-star hotels in glamorous locales, but those aren’t the only projects worth celebrating. Whatever the nature of your project, if you’ve used DALI technology to meet – and exceed – client requirements, then we want to hear about it.

…and a little something more

It’s a great feeling when a project is pulled off successfully. But there are a lot of well-executed lighting installations out there. To win one of these prestigious Awards, we’re looking for something more. Maybe it’s new techniques, or new thinking. A unique approach or a stunning design, a clever use of controls… or maybe something starkly different? What makes it stand out from the crowd?
If you think your project has got what it takes, then the time to get your entry in is now. Entries are open for the DALI Lighting Awards until November 30, 2020. The winners will be announced early next year. We wish you the best of luck!
