Liaisons with external organizations

Liaisons, collaborations and membership

The DALI Alliance works with a number of external organizations:

ANSI (American National Standards Institute)

DiiA is represented on the ANSI Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) C137 on Lighting Systems.

Our members contributed to the development of the new standard ANSI C137.4-2019 entitled “American National Standard for Lighting Systems—Digital Interface with Auxiliary Power.”

ANSI C137.4 is based on the DALI standard IEC 62386 with additional characteristics that are aligned with the D4i family of specifications from DiiA.

>> News (October 2019): ANSI C137.4-2019 standard aligns with D4i specifications

A presentation was given at Lightfair 2019 by Signify's Mike O'Boyle, describing the work of ANSI C137.4 Working Group in relation to standards for intra-luminaire DALI. >> Seminar materials

Bluetooth SIG

DiiA and Bluetooth SIG are developing specifications for a standardized Bluetooth mesh interface for DALI-2 and D4i devices, which will enable connectivity with wireless Bluetooth mesh networks.

IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission)

DiiA participates in the IEC work group WG 11 of TC 34. WG 11 develops and maintains IEC 62386, the international DALI standard.

DiiA provides Clarifications and Recommendations to WG 11, which are used by IEC in future updates of IEC 62386.

Separately, DiiA also writes new specifications, which are then provided to IEC to be incorporated into IEC 62386.

IP-BLiS – IP Building & Lighting Standards

IP-BLiS is a market interest group that was launched in June 2020 by BACnet International, KNX Association, OCF, Thread Group and the Zigbee Alliance. Together, these standards organizations support the widespread adoption of a secure, multi-standard, IP-based infrastructure as the backbone in commercial buildings for lighting and building-automation solutions.

Thread Group

DiiA and Thread are collaborating to implement the DALI lighting-control application on top of Thread’s low-power, secure and self-healing wireless mesh network. The goal is to offer a certification program to ensure interoperability and enable IoT developers to more quickly bring their lighting and sensor products to market.

>> Joint press release (April 2020): Thread Group and DiiA collaborate to shape the future of IoT lighting for commercial buildings

Zhaga Consortium

DiiA and Zhaga have introduced the joint Zhaga-D4i certification program for sensors and/or communication devices that can be connected to LED luminaires with plug-and-play interoperability.

Zigbee Alliance

Zigbee and DiiA are working together to bring further standardization and system interoperability to the IoT luminaires space. This development will help stakeholders realize the benefits of combining wired DALI lighting-control systems with wireless Zigbee networks as the Internet of Things (IoT) progresses.

>> Joint press release (April 2020): Zigbee Alliance and DiiA collaborate to standardize DALI-Zigbee gateways
