Job opportunity: DALI Alliance Technical Communicator

The DALI Alliance is seeking a Technical Communicator to create user guides and other materials/documents for the lighting industry. This new role is for an independent contractor working remotely. Interested applicants should apply directly to DALI Alliance General Manager, Paul Drosihn


ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create user guides and other materials/documents, for example:
    • Guide to Lighting Controls
    • How to Install DALI Systems (e.g. guide for electricians/installers)
    • Selection guidance for lighting designers/specifiers
    • Technical “How to Get Started” guide for component manufacturers

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Recognized relevant qualification(s) as technical author
  • Demonstrable experience in a suitably similar role with recent related assignments
  • Excellent English language communication skills, verbal and written
  • IT literate (competent in the use of MS Office)

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Lighting industry or close equivalent (e.g. electrical) is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with lighting controls, installation, building management etc.
  • Ability to specify/outline required illustrations/diagrams
  • Additional languages: any additional languages relevant to the operating locations of the Alliance would be welcome but not essential beyond English

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop working relationships with colleagues and manage stakeholders is essential
  • Flexible and adaptable with strong time-management skills
  • Keen to understand and improve knowledge of the subject matter

ADDITIONAL NOTES

  • This is a remote contractor role, there is no office. Almost all of our regular meetings are online - you need to be comfortable (and disciplined) to work alone/remotely much of the time.
  • You will be required to provide planning estimates for assigned work packages, commit and deliver to agreed timescales.
  • Currently most staff are UK-based but location is flexible with European reporting and online meetings typically in UK working hours.
  • Site visits and visits to members’ facilities may be necessary in the course of this role
  • Although we are a truly global organisation, all meetings and operations are conducted in English, therefore language skills are not essential beyond excellent fluent English.
